FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions:
why silk?
silk is what touches your skin and hair for a third of your life. it's smoother than cotton, kinder than synthetics, and it holds in the moisture cotton pulls out.
why blkboxsilk?
i slept on silk for years before i made these. my hair held color longer. my skin stopped creasing. friends kept asking which one to buy, and i didn't have a good answer- so i made this one. 30 momme. double-stitched. certified. nothing extra.
what does silk do for skin?
cotton is absorbent. it drinks the serum and moisturizer and drags against your skin all night. silk does neither. your skincare stays where it belongs. your face glides instead of folds.
what does silk do for hair?
When hair is exposed to friction and dryness, it breaks, frizzes, and tangles. silk has neither. natural oils stay in the strand. curls hold their shape. blowouts last a second day.
is it good for sensitive skin, acne, or eczema?
silk is naturally hypoallergenic. it doesn't trap moisture, dust mites, or bacteria the way cotton does. for skin that flares at the slightest provocation, that matters.
does it help with frizz and curls?
yes. cotton roughs up the cuticle. silk lets it lie flat. curls keep their pattern. flyaways stay down.
does it actually help me sleep better?
silk regulates temperature, cool when you're warm, warm when you're cool. no sticking, no clamminess, no flipping the pillow. it removes friction between you and rest.
what is momme, and why 30?
momme is how much silk is used in the fabric. most silk you'll find is 19 to 22. ours is 30, heavier, denser, made to hold up to nightly use. you can feel the difference the second you touch it.
what does oeko-tex and gots certified mean?
two independent certifications. oeko-tex tests finished textiles for harmful substances. gots certifies the supply chain. organic and ethical standards. our pillowcases carry both.
what about the seams?
double-stitched. it's a small detail until your seam splits in the wash six months in. ours won't.
how do i wash it?
cold water, gentle cycle, mesh laundry bag, mild detergent. no bleach. no fabric softener. no dryer. lay flat or hang to dry, away from direct sun. silk doesn't ask for much, but it does ask for that.
how often should i wash it?
about as often as the rest of your bedding, once a week is a reasonable baseline. silk is naturally resistant to dust mites and bacteria, so it can stretch longer between washes than cotton.
how long does it last?
treated well, a couple of years. ours longer, thanks to the 30 momme weight and the double seams. the fabric softens slightly over time, but doesn't degrade the way thinner silks do.
